DivX has announced that it's DivX video technology is coming to the Playstation 3. The Playstation 3 2.0 update which came few days ago is recognizing DivX files, but it still doesn't play them.

DivX video playback will be added in a later PS3 firmware update but a precise date is yet to be announced. Playstation 3 game title developers can utilize DivX technology with PS3 Software Development Kit version 2.0, which was released on November 2nd.

This is definitely the best news Playstation 3 owners have had in a long time, and the next best bit of news will probably be the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, but we will have to wait for that one a bit longer.
