New optical fibre developed
100 times more flexible
One of the world's biggest makers of optical fibre Corning has developed a new fibre optic cable which it says is 100 times more flexible.
In a press release Corning's president, Peter Volanakis said that the development of the cable will clear a hurdle for telecommunications carriers drawing fibre into homes.
He said that the cable was as rugged as copper cable but with all of the bandwidth benefits of fibre.
In current optical fibre light signal leaks out at bends or turns.
