Quakecon introduction

AMD loves
Quakecon and with that in mind, it doesn’t surprise us that at the same event, it plans to launch its new quad-core CPU. We are talking about new Phenom II Deneb based 45nm CPU that will now work at a record 3.4GHz.

Intel’s Core 2 Extreme works up to 3.33GHz and with 3.4GHz core clock, Phenom II X4 965 black Edition will be the fastest CPU that will ship to that date.

The introduction time is August 13th of the first day of Quakecon gaming event that takes place between August 13 and 16 in Gaylord Texas and according to the website counter, this event is about to start in nine days and nine hours, at least at press time. You can check it yourself here.

Texas as the launch location makes perfect sense as both Quakecon and AMD are two Texas based operations.

The interesting part is that with the same 125W TDP, AMD can officially reach even 3.4GHz and something tells us that this might not the be the last stop with this 45nm CPU, but we are certainly approaching some limits. Knowing that AMD doesn’t have a 32nm CPU until second part of 2010, it is quite obvious that Phenom II X4 will have to hold its ground until the new 32nm quad / six core parts come out.
