Indie contest winners may get no deal

Was not at all the purpose of the contest
The winner of the Activision sponsored Independent Games Competition is not assured a publishing deal with Activision, or so we are now finding out. It was always thought that the company would publish the winning title; however, we have learned that the company insists the sponsorship of the contest was about supporting indie developers and helping them to realize their vision.

Of course, if the games that come out of such a contest fit within the model the company would normally market and they see potential value in publishing them, one would think it would be a logical path. We have to think that if they believe they can make money from it, they will do it. We have to admit that like most, we thought that the winner’s products would see the light of day beyond the typical indie release.
