Open-world racer still in development

As suspected Burnout Paradise will get a sequel

While it might not have the Burnout name in the title, as has been rumored for a long time, one of the development teams at Criterion has continued to work on a new open-world racer. While everyone has been pretty tight lipped about what has been going on at Criterion, it has been suspected for some time that the studio was in fact working on some sort of new open-world title that would be the spiritual successor to Burnout Paradise.

Criterion’s release last year of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit confused many who thought that maybe the studio was heading in a different direction. While the studio’s NFS offering was successful, the company isn’t turning its back on the successful record that it has in the development of a massive open world driving title.

Criterion may be confirming the existence of the development of a new open-world racing title with a recent job posting. Officially, however, they are only talking about the upcoming release of Burnout Crash; which we previously told you is going to be a top-down arcade style crash fest for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Burnout Crash is expected to be released later this month.
