More than 20 per cent in 2015

Shipments for Apple iPad products will be down over 20 per cent on year in 2015, according to sources within the Taiwanese supply chain.

According to Digitimes sources iPads are being cannibalized by large-size smartphones.

Shipments for the 9.7-inch unit are suffering and supply chain makers such as Radiant Optoelectronics saw revenues drop 37.2 per cent sequentially in the first quarter of 2015, which also represented a 24.9 per cent on-year decrease.

Coretronic said that tablet products drop 35 per cent on quarter during the first quarter while touch panel maker TPK saw an overall 67 per cent decline for tablet products, down from 10 million in the previous quarter to around three million.

Suppliers are shifting their product strategies and shipments to meet expected demand for large-size smartphones a for 2015.  For many years Apple mocked the idea of Phablets, now it all seems that was just a cunning plan to protect its iPad sales from the kicking it knew it was going to get.
