2.93GHz that turbos to 3.6GHz

Intel should be unleashing a slew of Lynnfield CPUs in Q3 2009, and since we are in that quarter, the introduction is definitely in September 2009.

The fastest CPU branded as Core i7 870 will end up with 2.93GHz clock speed and will feature 8MB of overall cache. It has four cores and eight threads and it supports 1333 and 1066 DDR3, which is better than Bloomfield which officially supports only DDR3 800 and 1066.

The best of the specification is the top speed possible with turbo mode. Once it overclocks the CPU, it should be able to reach 3.6GHz which matches the top speed of the extremely expensive Core i7 975 CPU. In some applications and with turbo on, Lynnfield might even beat its far pricier sibling.

The TDP is at acceptable 95W and the CPU supports dual channel memory. Naturally it comes with LGA1156 and P55 boards are first to support it.
