Won’t be canned

We´ve learned that sales of Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition are doing really well, especially after finding that you can enable one lost core.

So now, you get a quad-core Phenom II X3 at 2.8GHz that can be overclocked to close to 4GHz on air, which is a great deal for $145 in the US. Since this “accident” finding that a three-core can become a quad-core has boosted three-core sales like never before, we really doubt that AMD will drop it. This definitely makes three-core CPUs more attractive than just about any core 2 Duo, and puts a lot of pressure on Intel.

AMD definitely got this one right as they know that they will win a lot of hearts of enthusiasts on a tight budget, and help AMD sell more CPUs. Back when the original 65nm Phenom X3 was launched, Intel was saying it was nothing more than a broken Phenom quad, with a useless third core. Now, it's a bargain quad-core which can easily take on and even beat similarly priced Intel CPUs.
