Qualcomm rubbishes Nokia leak rumours

by on17 January 2017

We did not leak a new Nokia design at CES

Claims that the new design for the Nokia 6 was accidently leaked at CES were rubbished by the alleged leaker Qualcomm.

Hacks at Total Tech were rather interested in a phone that Qualcomm was using to demonstrate its latest chips at CES and became convinced that this was the new Nokia 8 which was about to be launched but had not been seen in the wild.

The story claimed that Qualcomm accidentally revealed the upcoming device by Nokia, while demonstrating their Snapdragon 835 SoC on Nokia 8. It ran film of the device in action .

However Qualcomm has officially rubbished the reports and said that the device demonstrated at their CES booth was a reference design used by them.

The chipmaker has also written an official note to NokiaMob stating “We do not disclose details of our reference design. We’ve seen a few stories rumouring what we demonstrated in our CES booth to be a Nokia device, those reports are not accurate, our 835 demos were on our own reference design devices which we use to demo our Snapdragon SoC’s every year.”

So it is probably not going to be the Nokia 8 which is a pity because this is the model which is supposed to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S7 series, Apple iPhone 7 or next gen flagship smartphones so it would be nice to get an advance shufty.
