5800 on bulimic diet, vomits 3G and GPS

Nokia's stripped
down version of the 5800 XpressMusic is now shipping in Europe, and at prices of just over €200 it costs about as much as the 5800. The price, however, should go down as it becomes readily available, and there's a good chance it might end up near the €150 mark, which could make it popular among teens.

Kids and undemanding users obviously are the target group, as Nokia dropped 3G and GPS from the 5530, focusing more on style than substance. In spite of that, the 5530 has a 2.9-inch 640x360 screen, just a tad smaller than the one used on the 5800, and it's got quite a few teen friendly features focused on social networking. The camera stays the same, 3MP with LED, but unlike the 5800 the 5530 ships with just 4GB of memory, which isn't enough for media devices nowadays.

On the upside, the 5530 looks a lot better than the 5800. At 104x49x13mm and 106g it's a bit smaller than the 5800, and best of all it's got quite a few metal bits now. It will be available in black and white, with red or gray details for the black version, or blue, yellow and purple for the white flavour.

We're not sure about the CPU used in the 5530, but some punters have speculated it's even faster than the one used on the 5800. Sadly, even if this were true, it doesn't make up for the fact that it has no 3G support.

You can find the listings here, but we strongly suggest you wait a bit in case you're thinking of ordering one.
