Developer Playdead buys out investors

Maker of Limbo wants to keep creative control
Playdead, developers of the popular game Limbo, have bought out the investors in the company and will maintain its creative control going forward. Arnt Jensen and Dion Patti originally funded the development of Limbo out of their own pockets with a bit of help from the Danish government.

As the development of the title progressed, it was clear that while the title was initially going to be a free PC platform-only release, feedback was so positive that the pair elected to take on investors in order to expand the release and sale of the game to platforms beyond the PC.

Limbo did incredibly well on the Xbox 360, becoming one of the highest grossing Xbox Live Arcade games during 2010. Limbo was finally released this July for the PlayStation 3 and finally on the PC via Steam in August.

What Playdead is working on next is still a mystery, but apparently the next project is far more ambitious and they are expecting the development cycle to take 3 ½ years to complete. The new project has already been in development for some time, according to whispers that we have heard.
