News from our retail sources is that they have started to list the new Call of Duty title in their systems as Call of Duty: Project Colossus. It is expected when it is released it will not be called by its codename, “Project Colossus”, but instead by the more standard Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

According to whispers that we have overheard, MW3 is being developed by Infinity Ward with some assistance from new CoD internal studio, Sledgehammer Games. Activision has confirmed in their recent earnings call that the next Call of Duty title is set to be announced within weeks. Again, Activision promises the largest marketing campaign for the release of the title.

Little is actually known about this chapter in the CoD franchise, and Activision does have a lot riding on this release given the very public firings and departures of key employees from the Infinity Ward team.
