Only for the Steam version for now

As we
had already told you yesterday, DICE is pushing out a new patch for the PC version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. One thing that we learned today is that the version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 purchased and delivered through Steam will have its SecuROM protection uninstalled during the patch update process.

According to our sources, the multiplayer on the servers has been patched to allow both Steam and non-Steam BFBC2 players to play, despite not having the same version of the client or the fact that those players without Steam still have the SecuROM version in place. According to our sources, no decision has been made or discussed for that matter of removing the SecuROM copy protection of any other version of the BFBC2 for the PC.

Early word on the patch itself is positive, but it still leaves some nagging issues that are going to need to be dealt with at some point. The majority of the fixes included in the patch are for the multi-player version, but the patch does address some single player issues, as well. The biggest thing that this patch does is address some issues with the server browser; and from what we can tell, things have improved.

Perhaps the best news I experienced was that for some reason after this patch my Logitech G15 LCD display on my keyboard is now working, where it was not working prior to the patch. No idea why it is fixed or how it got fixed; as the release notes say nothing about a fix to address G15 support. However, fixed is fixed and I will take it.
