Pro-Palestinians suspected

IT staff at the London Jewish Chronicle are scratching their heads after hackers managed to deface the web site of  the rag. In what is believed to be a Pro-Palestinian attack, the hackers did not quite manage to break into the newspaper's file system.

Apparently they managed to deface a virtual file system with a large Palestinian flag accompanied by anti-Israel and anti-Semitic messages. The problem was cleared by switching the computer off and switching it on again. It was seen by the great unwashed but not for very long.

Insecurity experts link the attack to others by an outfit called Middle East Strife, which is a pro-Palestinian group believed to be based in Turkey. This hack though was claimed by another outfit called  Palestinian Mujaheeds.

The attackers, who appear to be Turkish, muttered something about Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip. Unfortunately they were not particularly coherent so it is not sure what exactly they were protesting about. They could have been protesting the blockade of the Gaza Strip by Israeli forces, or they could be equally have been moaning about the latest kiddies vampire blockbuster Twilight:New Moon, which we agree is an atrocity.

The site was down about 18 hours while the breach was investigated. Media friendly insecurity experts Sophos said the incident was part of a string of pro-Palestinian cybercrime, noting that in 2001 a so-called Injustice worm bombarded the e-mail of Israeli parliament members, and last year a US Army web site was defaced with an image of a Palestinian protester in front of an Israeli tank.
