Fired for doubting forecasts

Motorola's ex-Chief Financial Officer, Paul Liska, is taking the company to court over his recent termination.

Liska claims Motorola fired him for warning company officials the 2009 business plan was based on "unsubstantiated and misleading financial forecasts." Liska was sounding urgent warnings to others in the company, including co-CEO Greg Brown, saying that the mobile unit had no viable business plan for 2009.

Not only did his warnings fall on deaf ears, but he was soon out of a job, and the company's official stand is that he was fired for "serious misconduct and incompetence" on February 19.

Liska says the reasons for his termination, put forth by the company, are anything but true. He claims he performed well, and that his responsibilities grew quickly during his 11-month tenure at the mobile giant.

Liska now wants Motorola to pay him $1.5 million he claims is owed him, and he also wants additional punitive damages and a reimbursement for his legal costs.
