OS X Lion download only

by on22 July 2011

Will be for sale on flash drive in the future
True to their word, Apple has released its new OS X 10.7, or Lion, only for download in the new Apple Mac  App Store. The company had previously stated that Lion would only be available primarily for download. We have now learned, however, that there appears to be an exception to this.

For those that want Lion on media or don’t have the speed to download it, Apple will be offering Lion on a 4GB flash drive for $79 to be sold in Apple Stores; but no release date was promised, other than saying it would be available in the next couple of months.

The company has no plans to release it on DVD like previous OS releases and, as a matter of fact, the company is intending to move away from all DVD boxed releases and push users toward the Mac App Store. Users who do download Lion from the App Store are able to burn a bootable DVD with Lion on it by following a number of guides on how to do it all over the web.

It is the first day of release and Lion has already been downloaded over 1 million times, which translates into a $30 million dollar take for Apple.
