Preview: 770MHz factory overclock

EVGA has been kind enough to send us a sample of their fastest 9800 GTX card, 9800 GTX SSC running at 770MHz. This is one of few 9800 GTX cards whose frequencies exceed 750MHz, and there was even some talk that no company would sell this cards at such high clocks. The card's reference speed is 675MHz, so EVGA overclocked it by as much as 95MHz.

Of course, we immediately installed it and put it through its paces, and the result we got in 3DMark 06 is 12793. Compared to reference card's results in the same test, EVGA 9800 GTX SSC's result is better by 3.3%. However, the result got on 1280x1024 doesn't do this card any justice, since overclocked cards can score up to 15% better in gaming tests.

German/Austrian retailer Ditech managed to score EVGA 9800 GTX SSC cards first, and you can find them here. At press time, there's only one card left and you can buy it for €331.

The card's core ran cool and hit a maximum of 74°C. We'll have a more detailed review soon, so stay tuned.
