Rumour: Intel to delay Skylake desktop platform

by on16 February 2015

Pushed back to August?

The rumour of the day is that Intel will delay the release of Skylake desktop parts and 100-series chipsets by at least two months.

Skylake was supposed to be Intel’s first 14nm desktop part, backed with a range of new technologies and new chipsets. However, according to Digitimes, the launch was pushed back to late August. Skylake was originally set to appear in the second quarter of the year, most likely towards the end of the quarter (in time for Computex).

Digitimes reports that Intel informed motherboard manufacturers about the delay, which may have a big impact on their production plans. The delay could disrupt shipment plans for Broadwell-U and Haswell Refresh parts, and could even delay the development of 65W Broadwell chips.

Punters were expecting Skylake to make an appearance at Computex, which is still a possibility, but while vendors will probably have some hardware to show off, they will not be able to ship their products until late August or even September.
