CES 2010: 32nm and 28nm

We just
confirmed that Qualcomm, the creator of the ultra popular Snapdragon CPU that won the hearts of all top mobile phones, has signed to manufacture its chips at Globalfoundries.

These guys need top notch engineering and this is what the Dresden fab will be able to offer. 32nm production is running as we speak, at least the pilot production of some wafers, and it won’t be that far away until we see some real products coming out of that fab.

Qualcomm will use Globalfoundries first with 32nm and when it become available it will embrace 28nm, both in Dresden at the time.

This is an important win as Qualcomm is one of the most important mobile CPU companies and this is a great win for ATIC and Globalfoundries. Together with Chartered, ATIC is aiming to become the Skynet of computer chip manufacturing and TSMC will have a tough time fighting it.
