22nm in 2011

Intel's president and CEO Mr. Paul Otellini has confirmed at IDF that 32nm Westmere CPUs are starting to ship to OEMs and ODMs in Q4 2009. With this timeframe, Intel is still on track to do a transition every two years.

In late 2007 it started shipping 45nm, a year before AMD and in Q4 2009 it plans to start shipping its 32nm chips, mostly Clarkdale and Arrandale 32nm dual cores with 45nm IGP integrated.

Intel won't stop as the plan is to transition to 22nm in 2011, and Otellini mentioned 2H of 2011 as the timeframe to expect volume production of 22nm. He even showed what he says to be the working wafer of 22nm Nand flash, but as we said, volume production will have to wait for at least 2H 2011.
