Well, we
didn't expect the announcement this soon, but STMicroelectronics has announced that it is Globalfoundries' first non-AMD client.

In a press release, CTO Jean-Marc Chery said that the AMD spinoff will manufacture devices in 40nm Low Power bulk silicon technology for ST. He claims Globalfoundries is the right partner for low power designs.

ST currently runs several foundries of its own, and it also contracts UMC and TSMC to make its chips, but it seems it's not satisfied with TSMC's 40nm process, hence it's looking elsewhere.

Globalfoundries is still not saying much about volumes or financial aspects of the deal.
