Austin 2008: Replaces Kuma

AMD has
confirmed in our recent meeting in Austin, Texas that there will be a dual-core 45nm CPU. This is not spectacular news, as AMD has already shared this with financial analysts, but it was interesting to see some senior people in AMD confirming the existence of this ongoing project.

The first to come is Deneb 45nm quad-core, and we are still weeks away from that launch. After AMD launches quad-core AM3 DDR3 and AM2 DDR2 ones, the next in line will be the 45nm Heka tri-core. By the middle of 2009 there should be a 45nm dual-core K10.5 and this sounds quite late to us, but this probably has to do with a limited number of engineers who are making such a product possible.

Quad/tri-cores have priority, and tri-core is easy, as you simply disable one of the cores and you are good to go, while dual-core is a new processor that simply takes more time to design.
