Four 8500 3.16GHz available

A local computer shop Ditech.at got a dozen of Core 2 Duo 8400 and 8500 CPUs clocked at 3.0GHZ and 3.16GHz and it sold them the same day. You can see them listed here and at press time four 8500 are available here.

Everyone wants them, as in Austria the 3.0 GHz part sells for €189.90, while the new Core 2 Duo E8500, 2 x 3,16GHz, S-775, Box, sells for €264.90 and as we've already said, they sold out in just a few hours.

The supply of Wolfdale 45nm dual cores will be tough throughout Q1 2008, but you can expect to see some healthier numbers in March and later. Intel has an interesting situation as it has many 65nm dual cores, but at least top upgrade enthusiasts want to buy 45nm due to its better thermal and SSE4 performance.

Even if you are Intel it takes you a while until you ramp up 45nm production, and we hope for AMD’s sake that they can execute this transition better than the last one.
