Moto X costs US $221 to build

Motorola getting greedy?

While Motorola's Moto X smartphone certainly looks interesting and bears the "Assembled in the USA" stamp, it also has a rather high price which apparently does not relate to the actual BOM cost as it adds up to US $221.

While most companies complain about the actual cost of manufacturing or assembling on US soil, according to the report from IHS, Moto X is rather cheap to build, since it is practically based on a year-old Qualcomm chip and two chips from Texas Instruments, adding up to US $221.

IHS esitmates that the components used in the Moto X add up to US $209, while the manufacturing cost is around US $12 per unit. If the IHS figures are correct, assembling the phone in the US is around US $4 to $5 more expensive when compared to China and Taiwan.

In case you missed it earlier, Moto X costs US $575.
