HTC announces 5-inch J Butterfly

by on17 October 2012

What a name for such a beast

HTC has announced its new flagship phone, or should we say phablet, the HTC J Butterfly. Someone over at HTC clearly has a sense of humor, as calling a 5-inch beast “butterfly” is a bit like dressing Chuck Norris in a tutu.

As expected, the Butterfly is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro APQ8064 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM, which is more than enough for just about any Android app out there. But the real headline grabber is the 5-inch 1080p SLCD3 display, with 441 pixels per inch. It makes the Galaxy Note 2 seem rather outdated, not to mention lesser Android phones out there.

The rest of the spec sheet is equally impressive, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 2,020mAh battery, NFC and a 9.1mm thick body, available in black, red and white.

But here’s the catch. The J Butterfly will only be available in Japan, but a redesigned version could make its way to the rest of the world. So if you want one, you can either move to Japan, marry Yoko Ono and publish a terrible record, or you could just wait for a few months.
