Pending approval from Chinese, Taiwanese and Israeli regulatory bodies, the EU and U.S. have approved Google’s bid for Motorola Mobility phone maker.

The regulatory bodies agreed that the deal would not hinder competition in the mobile OS market. However, the company and its rivals will be monitored by the authorities when it comes to patents.

Indeed, the bid will grant Google access to more than 17,000 Motorola Mobility’s patents. The EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia pointed out that the monitoring will be necessary due to “increasingly strategic use of patents.”

Google’s Vice President Don Harrison said that the approval is an important milestone. He added that the resulting company will “help supercharge Android”.
