LG Optimus 2X to get Gingerbread in July

by on11 July 2011

Industry sources claim
LG Optimus 2X, a decent phone that sees 387MB out of its alleged 512 MB of RAM memory, might be getting Gingerbread, Android 2.3 already this month.

We spoke with some people that avidly expect to see the Gingerbread update already in July. This quite good as a phone with dual core Tegra 2 is much slower with LG Android 2.2 OS than the unofficial Cyanogen MOD Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread version that we tried running. We believe that many Optimus 2X P990 owners are anxious to see the official 2.3, but for the ones that like the latest greatest, Cyanogen runs things just fine.

This mod works so well, that all the apps we have work just fine, and we don’t miss the official software at all. You still have to know how to root the phone in order to run the rom manager, quite nice application that makes flashing a new OS as easy as a walk in a park, not in a park in Falling Skies.

Delays are always possible, and the update might be pushed even further, but out well informed sources have told us July. Still some 20 days of that month, so the hope is still alive.
