Just too many issues, says Microsoft
An open source Nintendo NES emulator has been developed by author, Matt Bettcher, for the Windows Phone 7 platform, but owners will not be seeing it any time soon. Microsoft let the author know that his app will not be welcomed to be sold in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace.

According to Microsoft, there are just too many potential legal issues surrounding the ROMs that are used on emulators such as this NES emulator for WP7. Sources are suggesting to us that this might not be the only reason, as the company may believe that free console emulation (like that of the NES emulator) might just have too much of a negative impact on Windows Phone 7 game sales.

While Apple has allowed emulation on the iPhone and iPod Touch to be available in its app store, apparently Microsoft has decided to err on the side of caution and avoid any possible legal minefield that the release of the emulation app might cause. It is too bad, as the screen shots appear to make it a worthy addition to the WP7 platform for NES fans.
