The rumour mill has manufactured a yarn which claims that Google is tinkering away on a "super" Android device.

The Google phone will be thinner than all existing iPhone and Android devices and all the Android-powered phones released by the likes of HTC and Samsung are just a warm-up to what the search engine outfit has planned.

Apparently the phone has been built entirely secretly and without any hype. Google was hoping to have it ready for the Christmas rush but it has slipped to 2010 the rumour mill suggests.

"Google is building their own branded phone that they'll sell directly and through retailers. They were long planning to have the phone available by the holidays, but it has now slipped to early 2010," the blog said. However analysts think all this is unlikely. Google would miff an awful lot of handset makers if it released such a phone.

Google has been quoted as saying it preferred to sit on the software side of the smartphone equation.
