One in the eye for Apple

HTC's new
Android-based Hero phone will have something that Apple does not – the ability to handle Flash elements on websites.

This means that punters will have access to the likes of YouTube video. Adobe Systems confirmed that its Flash Player will be built into the HTC phone. The reason it is is happy is that it has had a cunning plan to stick Flash into the mobile market.

The phone, one of several from HTC to use Google's Android is scheduled to ship in Europe starting in July and in Asia and North America later in the year. It can't run Flash Player 10, the current version for PCs because it is based around ActionScript 2 applications which only work on Flash Player 9.

It is currently working with HTC to try and get Flash Player 10 to mobile phones through over-the-air updates, though, so Adobe expects fuller Flash support eventually. A beta should be around in the fourth quarter of 2009, Adobe said. Apple could have Flash on the iPhone tomorrow, however for some reason it is dragging its feet on approving it.
