Why not as we can

Last week we reported that the top of the line, Radeon HD 4870 X2 will come with 2GB GDDR5 memory. It takes a lot of memory chips to do this and GDDR5 is definitely not cheap memory these days.

As the point of this card is pure marketing for the best of the best, ATI has decided to jump over the roof and offer twice as much memory as Nvidia. Nvidia's Geforce GXT 280 has 1,024MB GDDR3, while the top ATI card will come with 2GB GDDR5.

We are sure that there will be a substantial difference between the 1GB GDDR3 version of the Radeon HD 4870 X2 and its 2GB GDDR5 brother, but at this time we don’t know the real pricing. We are certain that currently this matter is alive and ATI is checking its options due to the weaker position of its competitor.
