To fend off ATI's HD3800 series

Nvidia
AIBs are getting ready to fight the low-priced HD3800 series with 256MB 8800 GT cards, and Leadtek is the second partner to officially announce a 256 MB version.

The card is reference clocked, 600/1800MHz and uses a reference single slot cooler, which is no surprise since it's aimed at cash strapped consumers. The card is bundled with Neverwinter Nights 2.

Affordable 8800 GT cards with 256MB will probably do well on the market, once Nvidia resolves the availability issue, of course. There is also the fear that the market really wants more than 256MB these days. We will learn soon enough.
