Nvidia Geforce RTX 4060 8GB reviews are live

by on28 June 2023

Roundup: Available tomorrow, starting at $299

Nvidia has lifted the review NDA for the Geforce RTX 4060 8GB graphics. The new Geforce RTX 4060 8GB graphics card is set to be available as of tomorrow June 29th, with $299 MSRP. There is no Founders Edition for the Geforce RTX 4060, so all reviewed graphics cards are custom versions from Nvidia AIC partners.

In case you missed it back when it was announced, the Nvidia Geforce RTX 4060 8GB is based on AD107 GPU, with 24 streaming multiprocessors (SMs), adding up to 3,072 CUDA cores, 96 Tensor cores, 24 RT cores, 48 ROPs and 96 TMUs. It comes with 8GB of 17Gbps GDDR6 memory on a 128-bit memory interface, adding up to 272GB/s of memory bandwidth. The TDP is set at 115W and it needs a single 8-pin PCIe power connector. The reference GPU clock is set at 1,830MHz with a 2,460MHz Boost, but some versions will obviously boost higher.

Performance-wise, the new Geforce RTX 4060 8GB is pretty close to the AMD Radeon RX 7600 8GB graphics card, beating it by a small margin of 4 to 10 percent, depending on the game and the resolution. The RTX 4060 8GB should be able to push well over 60 FPS in most titles, at least at 1080p resolution, and in some games you would be even able to push higher 1440p resolution. Of course, Nvidia has DLSS up its sleeve, which should give it an additional performance boost in games that support it. When it comes to ray tracing, the AD107 is far from ideal but some titles should work, although do not expect high frame rates, at least not without DLSS.

Nvidia has a pretty decent mid-range graphics card with the Geforce RTX 4060 8GB. The performance is there, but it has a lot of competition in that the $300 price range, including Intel's Arc A770 and Arc A750 graphics cards, AMD's Radeon RX 7600, and even AMD's last generation RX 6700 XT and RX 6600 XT graphics cards. Of course, Nvidia will push its RT capabilities and DLSS in order to justify the price.

There are plenty of custom versions to choose from as all Nvidia AIC partners have launched at least a couple of versions. Today, we only get to check out versions that will launch at $299 MSRP, and there will be plenty of other higher-priced versions tomorrow.
