Sapphire's new R9 290X Vapor-X pixellized

by on28 February 2014

Has 8GB of RAM and a backplate

Videocardz.com managed to snag a picture of the upcoming Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Vapor-X graphics card which will feature 8GB of GDDR5 memory, making it a perfect graphics card for multi-screen or 4K/UHD gaming.

While Sapphire's R9 290X Tri-X is one of the best non-reference R9 290X graphics cards on the market, the 4GB of RAM was quite limiting in certain scenarios, mostly when talking about 4K/UHD resolutions and Eyefinity multi-monitor setups.

The upcoming Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X is based on a blue-on-black color scheme, packs 8GB of GDDR5 memory and comes with a backplate which should keep the backside RAM chips cooled and offer more structural ridgidity to the card. We are not sure if the cooler is the same as on the Tri-X version or it will have some other improvements below the fans but in any case, it should be enough to keep the GPU well cooled.

Unfortunately, we still do not have any details regarding the actual clocks although we are quite sure we will see a decent factory-overclock. The precise launch date and the price is still unknown.
