Beats Geforce 9700M GTS in 3DMark

Guys from Notebookcheck.net Web site managed to get their hands on one of those FSC Amilo Sa 3650 notebooks that comes bundled with Graphics Booster. This notebook, coupled with Graphics Booster, is enough to beat Toshiba's Qosmio X300, based on Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 and Geforce 9700M GTS in 3DMark06.

Currently, the Amilo Sa 3650 is the only notebook with XGP port for AMD's external graphics device. According to the tests, Amilo Graphics Booster is enough for some casual gaming, but don't expect it to do Crysis which is, as you know, even hard on some desktop systems.

The Amilo Sa 3650 notebook comes with 2.4GHz Turion X2 Ultra ZM-84 CPU, 4GB of memory, 13.3-inch 1280x800 display and integrated Radeon HD 3200 graphics. The Amilo Graphics Booster, on the other hand, is based on the Radeon HD 3870 card and connects to the notebook via PCI-Express 2.0 x8 XGP port.

The bad thing, according to the test over at Notebookcheck.net, is that you can only utilize the Graphics Booster via external monitor that can be connected via DVI-I or an HDMI port. Guys from Notebookcheck.net also didn't like the AMD Turion X2 and considered it a bottleneck, as it is surely inferior to equally clocked Intel CPUs.

All in all, the FSC Amilo Sa 3650 sounds like a good start for AMD's XGP. It can turn the small Amilo into a solid gaming system, at least for those casual gamers. The impression is that AMD's XGP just should be paired up with a decent notebook system, as FSC's Amilo Sa 3650 specs are just way too low, and we hope that more notebooks will embrace AMD's XGP.
