PS3 version only running at 640p

Despite all of the positive reviews for Red Dead Redemption, one thing that apparently has left many scratching their heads is why the Playstation 3 version of the game is apparently running at a lower resolution than the Xbox 360 version of the game, according to industry sources.

From what we are being told, the Xbox 360 version of Red Dead is running at full 720p resolution with 2X antialiasing, while the Playstation 3 version is apparently only running at 640p. So far, no one is commenting on if this is the truth or not. According to those that have done side-by-side comparisons, both versions look good and you might be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two.

Our sources tell us that the original claim was made by a poster in the Beyond3D forums; and given the technical nature and track record of many of the discussions in this forum, we have to think that it is accurate. It is unlikely that Rockstar will join in the debate and explain why this is the way that it is, but we have to think there is a reason.
