Not a surprise, given what we knew

Well, our sources are now confirming to us that the in development Call of Duty 7 at Treyarch will be taking the series to Vietnam as suspected. While the vast majority of the game is said to be set in the Vietnam War era, we are also hearing reports of some Cold War Russian action, as well.

The decision for Treyarch to move the series finally out of WWII will be welcomed by many that have grown tired of the same old recycled WWII action. While other titles have attempted to use the Vietnam War as a setting, the majority of them have been unsuccessful in gaining popularity with gamers.

The twist to incorporate the Cold War Russian aspects into the game might be just enough extra when combined with the Vietnam era fighting that it might be more successful than previous Treyarch COD offerings. Still, we don’t expect it to generate the popularity of Modern Warfare 2; but we will have to see how this title fares once released. While the exact release date is still unknown, we know that it is on track as a confirmed release for this holiday season.
