No more online play for first Xbox

A day that we told you about some time back has come and gone. The original first generation Xbox, which had been on life support for some time, has had its online plug pulled, so to speak. All online Xbox Live support is at an end for the first generation console.

While owners of the first generation Xbox can still play games on it and even play local LAN games with the console, all of the Xbox Live online support will no longer be functional. Microsoft claims that with the additional upgrades and changes that they want to make to the Xbox Live service going forward there was just no way to support the first generation console.

Several popular titles from the original Xbox have remained popular, including Battlefront 2, Halo 2 and Crimson Skies; beyond those titles the majority of users have moved on to the Xbox 360 or other next generation consoles. We enjoyed our original Xbox and we will hate to see the online play go, but there are some options out there for those that still are seeking online play for the Xbox, you just need to do a search or two.
