Despite what everyone thought about DICE’s upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company 2 not going down the same road as Mass Effect 2 (as far as it not being part of Electronic Art’s internal effort to battle the sales of used games, better known under the codename of “Project Ten-Dollar”) these days, you had better think again, as it will.

That’s right: as with Mass Effect 2, those that buy a new copy of the game will be given a code which gets them into the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 store that will be giving away free stuff.  We would guess the freebies have to be things such as weapons; and without the code, players will have to buy access to the store at a cost of $15. (This makes us wonder why they are not calling this project fifteen-dollar, rather than ten-dollar.)

While we have heard at least some griping about this practice, as we said before, we suspect that this will be pretty much the way it is going forward with the majority of the bigger titles. Developers and publishers are committed to find a way to tap into the used game market and get a piece of that pie.
