Still no excuse for the recent GT 5 delays

It seems that Gran Turismo developer, Polyphony Digital, is going on the offense to make sure that those unhappy with all of the delays associated with the upcoming release of Gran Turismo 5 know that after selling over 55 million copies of Gran Turismo the developer knows how to deliver.

While we can all be impressed by sales figures, it still does not change the fact that Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3 is late, has been postponed several times, and all the while Turn 10 Studios was able to get out their competing Forza Motorsport 3 on the Xbox 360, and it turned out to be quite a game.

Still, we have to give credit where credit is due; and after selling 55 million copies of the franchise, it is an impressive number. The bottom line is that they needed to sell 55 million copies in order to be able to afford the extended development cycle that it is taking to get Gran Turismo 5 out the door. With as much money as has been dumped into producing Gran Turismo 5, it is going to have to generate a lot of sales in order to make enough revenue to pay for itself. At this point that just might be a pipe dream, as the on again, off again release of Gran Turismo 5 has it looking more like the Duke Nukem of the PlayStation 3 world.
