No real surprises, other than THQ is making money

Once you get over the fact that long time publisher THQ is making money again, it comes as little surprise that the company will be going back to what works to keep the money flowing in. The company has announced that it has posted a profit of $542,000, which is a big turnaround from the $191 million in losses that it had last year.

The company is looking toward the future, and while the company will be betting heavily on the success of UFC Undisputed 2010, the company also has a stable of old favorites, such as their latest WWE title in the pipeline as well as confirming that both new entries in the Saints Row and Red Fraction franchises are in development.

Beyond these titles, the company will be looking for Darksiders, Metro 2033, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II and Chaos Rising as the titles that the company will be banking to deliver the goods going forward into the rest of this year. Darksiders, which has already been released, isn’t off to a stellar start, with word that only 1.2 million units have been sold so far despite very positive reviews from a number of media outlets. It is believed that THQ will step up its efforts for this title to attempt to get the word out going forward.

THQ has a solid slate of offerings and does look poised to continue the roll that they are on, but only time will tell whether this roll is short lived or will continue to the recent successful release UFC Undisputed 2009. We have to believe that moving onward this is necessary for THQ to get back to the top as one of the major forces in video game development.
