Blames unfavorable reviews on the reviewers

Tony Hawk is speaking out about the new title Ride, which bears his name. The early buzz seem to be quite favorable, so much in fact that sources indicated that Activision was even thinking about additional titles that took advantage of the unique board controller.

Hawk claims that he was involved in the development pretty much every step of the way and that he is pleased with the end result, despite a lot of negative reviews by the media. The skateboarding icon suggests that many reviews didn't give the title a chance, and the claims that the controller is unresponsive, he believes, comes from reviewers who just didn't give the title a fair shake.

While he is unhappy with what seems as a predisposition by many reviews that are negative toward the title, Hawk is proud of what he was able to contribute to the title that was produced in conjunction with developer, Robomodo. Titles that have carried the Tony Hawk name in recent years have not been living up to the success that the game enjoyed in the early years, and have been eclipsed in recent years by the Electronic Arts-produced Skate franchise.

While Hawk believes that the game is super fun and there is still a lot of room for growth in this new direction of the franchise, it is unknown if publisher Activision will continue down this path with the development of another Tony Hawk title that will use the unique board controller. Our sources insisted last week that plans were already in the works for another title that would use the board controller from Ride, but now we are hearing that those plans may, in fact, be on hold while Activision considers the future of the franchise.
