Several facilities to be closed in the process

The fallout from the initial Electronic Arts layoffs that we told you about yesterday is starting to become clearer, with the company now confirming that it will let 1,500 employees go. With that number of employees being shown the door, it is no surprise that we are also now able to confirm that several facilities will be closed as part of this process.

While EA has yet to confirm those that received the axe yesterday over at Black Box, Tiburon, and Redwood Shores, new casualties have included staff slashes at Pandemic, Maxis, and pretty much all of the Command & Conquer development team. We have had sources tell us that the Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight team was told that the entire team would be kicked to the curb once the game ships in 2010.

As for the Maxis and Pandemic developers, those that are left will be integrated into the EA facilities at Redwood Shores and the EA Headquarters facilities. Both the Maxis and Pandemic studios will be closed. Reports suggest that the number of affected headcount on the Maxis and Pandemic development teams was substantial.

The company has yet to make any official statement concerning projects or titles that will be canceled due to the restructuring. Sources tell us, however, that the company will be doing an internal review of titles, both announced and unannounced, to determine a final status on titles. It is likely that the release calendar will undergo some revisions, according to our sources.
