Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

Now that the Midway deal is on the road to closing with Warner, some interesting inside stories are beginning to emerge from the depths of Midway on topics that have been buried: rumors and truths that are just starting to find the light of day.

One such topic is whatever happened to the downloadable content that was long rumored for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe? As anyone that has played the game knows, a good number of key characters seem to have been missing on both sides. The long since rumor was that we would see these characters in as downloadable content for future release.

This was the plan that the MK team had, but as we all know, it never came to pass. Characters like Kung Lao, Lobo, Quan Chi, and Doomsday were planned for release. Even renderings of some of these characters have been posted online.

According to reports, a downloadable pack featuring additional characters was just about completed, but it is doubtful that it will ever see the light of day. The new owners apparently see little value in completing the downloadable content for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe at this point because it would take away much needed resources from the work on Mortal Kombat 9, which needs to continue.

While our sources do not rule out the possibility of a sequel to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, because of the close working relationship that the publisher has with DC, at this point it does not seem to be a priority. Our sources tell us that Warner Bros. wants the team to get Mortal Kombat completed and out the door and then they will be ready to start talking about the possibility of a sequel for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

As it was said above, the downloadable content pack for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was pretty close to ready, but not close enough that it could be released as is. We agree that multiple sources suggest that it is deader than dead.
