Warner to show first post-EA version

As Electronic Arts lost its publishing rights for the Lord of The Rings titles, the future of the franchise on gaming platforms has been largely unknown. We found out today that Warner Bros. plans to show the next chapter of Lord of The Rings gaming at E3.

The new title will be called Lord of The Rings: Aragorn’s Quest, and has already been in development for some time according to our sources. The game play in the new title will be a bit more family friendly, but at the same time is designed to be action oriented, allowing all to play together.

The game will be the first from Warner Bros., who owns New Line Cinema, the producer of the Lord of The Rings movies. Warner Bros. has been putting more of a focus on developing new titles from the large amount of properties that it owns rather than licensing it out.

According to our sources this will not be the last Lord of The Rings title, as the publisher already has plans for another title that will center around the prequel, The Hobbit, which is expected to hit theaters in 2012. Of course, that is a bit far away, and Warner will want to test the popularity of Lord of The Rings: Aragorn’s Quest out first, before thinking about another title in the franchise.

Currently, it is unknown which system will see the release of Lord of The Rings: Aragorn’s Quest, but our understanding is that we can expect it for the majority of the platforms when it is released. No release details have been offered yet, but it is expected that things will become clearer when Warner shows off the progress of the title at E3.
