Avatar is breaking records all over the place, and the latest one to fall is the record for Blu-ray disc sales. Reports are confirming to us that Avatar has broken the record of previous record holder, The Dark Knight, by selling 1.2 million copies on Blu-ray the first day of release.

Avatar was able to rack up another 2.7 million copies sold by Thursday of last week, which breaks the previous sales record of The Dark Knight, which was able to sell a total of 2.5 million, but it took 18 months to do so. These numbers do show that more Blu-ray players are out there and people know that this is one to own on Blu-ray.

What many buyers perhaps don’t know is that this Blu-ray release of Avatar is a stripped down release. A special edition release as well as a 3D version is expected to be released, as well. There is nothing like having to buy the same movie over and over to get the version you really wanted.
