WiMax kicks off

4G chip provider, Beceem has launched a sixth-generation WiMAX chip.

The imaginatively titled BCSx350 chip uses “Twin-Turbo” dual transmit uplink technology and can provide up to 6dB of performance gain compared to traditional Wave 2 uplink technology. The outfit claims that it is the most advanced 4G-WiMAX platform ever designed.

It will come in two models. There is the BCSM350 for mobile/embedded devices and the BCS5350 for high-performance, low-cost CPE that simultaneously support data, voice, and WiFi in a single chip.

It is expected to go into mass production Q2/2010 and there is no word on price yet.
