Lower price enables multiple services

System-on-a-chip
maker, Coppergate has come up with a device which it claims  is the first complete Ethernet over Coax (EoC) system on a single chip. The CopperGate CG3310M, is based upon an integrated mixed signal design and reduces the footprint on the PCB and minimizes the number of external components needed to deliver affordable broadband access over coax cable.

Installed into set top boxes and networked consumer appliances it means that OEMs to deliver even lower priced, integrated solutions for multiple service offerings over EoC. The CG3310M uses a flexible band selection process for improved performance and works better than older technology with legacy services such as CATV and DOCSIS.

The new chip can be part of a very high performance solution that delivers solid 160 Mbit/s of total system throughput to 126 simultaneous users. The new chip is also very energy efficient, requiring only 1.25 watts of power. CopperGate is being targeted to price sensitive markets of China, India, Brazil.
