New talent to focus on Fusion

We have
been able to confirm the details from our sources regarding the re-organization changes that AMD will be making to ramp up for Fusion. With Fusion getting closer to reality, AMD is moving some talent around to augment and lead the Fusion team. There is no expected impact to graphics development going forward because of these changes, and we think that is important to know.

Godfrey Cheng will leave Markham and move to Austin to become the Director of the Client Technologies unit. Andy Thompson will be returning to AMD and become the Director of Graphics Technologies, replacing Godfrey Cheng. (Thompson did a stint with the company as the ISV Relations Director and was the Director of Marketing for Imageon previously, as well.) Cheng and Thompson will be working closely together to forge and unite the technology between the graphics and client sides of the business, which will be critical for success moving forward. John Taylor will lead the charge for Fusion as he leaves his post as Director of Product PR to become the Director of Marketing for Fusion.

A change of address is also in the wind for Carrell Killebrew, as he will head for Austin from Sunnyvale to begin a new role leading the product planning for AMD overall. Killebrew is most recently known as the mastermind behind the Eyefinity technology. Previous to this, Killebrew led the product planning for AMD’s graphics side of the house.

From the chatter we are hearing from those claiming to be in the know, this might not be all of the changes we can expect to see. Our moles suggest than none other than Chris Hook will be quarterbacking the media splash for Fusion and more key moves are expected in the coming weeks.
