No problems transferring your 360 hard drive

In the past, transferring your Xbox 360 hard drive from a smaller drive to a new larger drive could be an issue if you didn’t purchase the 120GB hard drive upgrade kit. Previously, this meant trying to obtain what became an elusive Xbox 360 hard drive transfer cable and disc.

Microsoft is finally going to put an end to this once and for all by offering the Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Kit by selling it separately in the Microsoft store for $14.99. This remedies the previous problem of no easy transferability: you can buy a used larger Xbox 360 hard drive and transfer or migrate your date over to your new larger hard drive, and it used to be you could call Microsoft and request a transfer cable, but after some time Microsoft started charging $12 for the cable and disc. Still, many that did not know about this had to try to purchase a used one on eBay.

While Microsoft will still be bundling the Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer cable with the purchase of Xbox 360 hard drives that are for upgrade at the larger size, the smaller sized drive (in this case currently the 60GB hard drive) does not include the transfer cable and disc. For those users buying used drives, the decision by Microsoft to Hard Drive Transfer Kit separately online will be a welcomed decision. We would not be surprised if we saw the kit actually make its way to retailers at some point, but Microsoft has not yet announced any plans to do so.
